Christopher was not having a great deal of luck dating women lately. It seemed that everyone he met came with all sorts of baggage and drama. Ex-boyfriends, ex-husbands, unhappy children, unrewarding jobs... weren't there any upbeat single people anymore? Sure, Christopher had his own share of ups and downs but he really felt that injecting a little passion into his life might make those that much more bearable.
When it came to dating women, Christopher had typically been a little shy. In high school, he'd had more than his share of refusals and jokes made at his expense by girls that weren't particularly sensitive to anyone's feelings but their own. Christopher had become a little hesitant to ask anyone out for fear of rejection. He always felt that he tried to date within his "league" and he never understood how some people could be so mean. He knew and followed the unwritten rule that if you weren't the captain of the football team, you didn't try to date the head cheerleader.
As he'd matured, Christopher actually became quite a stunning man. Women that had known him back in school regretted not taking him up on his invitations. Nowadays, Christopher was quite a catch. Yet, in spite of all his efforts, he never seemed to be dating women that could be considered long-term relationship prospects. Truth be told, what Christopher really yearned for was a wife. He was one of those men that really loved being in a committed relationship and, closing in on the age of thirty, he was feeling a tug to settle down.
This early Saturday morning found Christopher jogging on the bike path nearest his home. Exercise and overall physical fitness helped him keep off the edginess he often felt at being alone. His sex life was pretty much non-existent, in recent weeks, and he was starting to find it more and more difficult to handle. As he ran along at a steady pace, Christopher became aware that someone was jogging quite close behind him. Turning quickly and glancing over his shoulder, he was stunned to see the most gorgeous woman he'd seen in ages. Soft blond hair pulled back in a ponytail, she wore no visible makeup and had a killer body. Christopher tried to focus on the path ahead of him when, in truth, he just wanted to stare. He was certainly not accustomed to dating women of her calibre.
Christopher slowed his run, just a little, and she quickly caught up to him. Since neither was listening to music during their run, she smiled and said hello. He returned her greeting and commented on the lovely morning. They jogged in time with one another and struck up a friendly chat. Christopher learned her name was Amelia and she had just moved into the area a week or so prior. He welcomed her and mentioned a couple of other parks and tracks where she could run. She thanked him for the information and asked if she could buy him a drink at the end of the run, in appreciation for his kindness. Everything in his body was responding to Amelia and he accepted her offer without hesitation. He couldn't wait to learn more about her.
